Direct Access in the state of California began January 2014. The law states that you can see a licensed physical therapist without seeing a doctor for a referral, but only for either up to 45 calendar days or 12 visits; whichever comes first. If you require treatment beyond these guidelines, you will be asked to comply by getting a referral from your physician or surgeon. Physical therapy can be continued only after a referral is obtained by or sent to Alternative Physical Therapy. For more information and advice specific to your situation, please contact our office to speak to a member of our team.

If this is your first appointment, please download the New Patient Forms and fill them out for when you check in, Be prepared to provide your previous medical or surgical history. If you have them and if they are relevant, bring any surgical or MRI reports, and list of medications.

Wear something loose, or bring it with you. Comfort is key and elastic-band waist works best. A tank top with a light sweater is perfect as well, especially if we will be treating the upper body.

Treatment duration depends on your diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, your past medical history, and other factors.  Re-evaluations will be done to assess your progress and your therapist communicates with your physician to help you achieve your therapy goals.

Alternative Physical Therapy is a private-pay medical practice, which in short, indicates that you are responsible for payment at time of service. You can still BILL your insurance by filing a claim with info given to you by our team, to be reimbursed directly from your insurance.

Since Alternative Physical Therapy is NOT in network with any insurance companies, this will fall under your OUT OF NETWORK benefit (and may fall under a separate deductible as well).

To avoid any confusion, it is BEST to contact your insurance provider to determine what your out-of-network deductible and coverage will be PRIOR to your first visit.

Please call the office at 858-254-8684 as soon as possible to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Alternative Physical Therapy requires 24 hour notice for cancelled appointments.*If appointment is on a Monday, please leave a voicemail at 858-254-8684 before 4 pm on Sunday. We understand that things happen, but scheduled appointments missed without notice or cancelled after 4 pm the day prior to your appointment may incur an out of pocket fee up to $50.
